Serengeti Pioneer Camp
> Central Serengeti
Located on the central Serengeti's sloping hills, and overlooking the Moru Kopjes, is Serengeti Pioneer Camp. All 12 of the canvas tents are reminiscent of the early pioneers and the glamour of 1930s safaris but furnished with modern and fully-functional luxuries across the great Serengeti plains that the wildebeest of the Great Migration roam.
OVERVIEW:
There are two main activities on offer at this camp. On game drives through the Serengeti, you'll come within mere metres of some of Africa's most beautiful animals, from lion and giraffe to elephant and buffalo. Book a picnic for the game drive, make a day of it, or track the Great Migration herds (from c. December to March). Otherwise, opt for the unmissable hour-long balloon safari and see the same fantastic beasts from new heights (but this does cost extra).

THE LODGE/CAMP:
A firm favourite for relaxing around the camp, the lounge sits on a rocky outcrop with panoramic views of the Moru Kopjes and vast open plains. The rolled canvas and mesh sides and high, makuti-thatched roof allow plenty of natural light to flood the room. Wooden chairs, soft couches and sun loungers offer plenty of relaxation in between game drives. The nearby dining tent is set with individual tables adorned with crisp white linen and paraffin lamps at night and takes 'dining with a view' to a whole new level.
ROOMS:
Each of the 12 large tents is furnished with carefully chosen pieces that evoke the mobile camps of 1930 explorers, and you'll find period lamps, weathered dressers and hat stand in the bedroom, and romantic copper sinks in the bathrooms. All rooms have luxurious queen-sized beds draped with a mosquito net and an en-suite bathroom, including a flushing toilet, vanity and hot shower. Take your favourite book outside and enjoy the first rays of sunshine from under the canvas-covered awning in the morning.
QUICK INSIGHTS:
Experience the extraordinary thrill of a hot-air balloon safari as you gently float across the Serengeti skies and watch the beauty of the wildlands unfold below. Be sure to book in advance.
The camp uses solar power, and there are no charging points in the tents. You may charge devices in the main lounge, and there is also a central hairdryer available for everyone to use.
