Rivertrees Country Inn
> Arusha
Just 40 minutes in one direction from Kilimanjaro International Airport and approximately an hour (traffic-dependent) from Arusha Airport in the other direction means that Rivertrees is a great spot to pause before embarking on – and returning from – the adventure of a lifetime. All these advantages aside, the inn is a charming destination in its own right. With all the necessary ingredients for a relaxing retreat from the world, or an exploratory extravaganza of culture, nature and wildlife, there is something to cater to the poolside sunbather and the mountain climber alike.
OVERVIEW:
Rivertrees’ prime location has a great deal in its favour: it is an excellent base for exploring Northern Tanzania’s wealth of national parks and natural wonders, for starters. Its proximity to Arusha’s two airports and its position on the region’s main road means that it is ideal for accessing many exciting activities and stunning spots.

THE LODGE/CAMP:
Originally a B&B, Rivertrees farmhouse now houses four rooms and the communal areas – the lounge in the original, now refurbished, building and the dining and bar space in a separate, thatched and open-sided structure. The lodge is decorated with well-cared-for family antiques alongside stylish and comfortable chairs and sofas. The food is excellent (the pizzas are highly rated). And there's a pool to wallow in to escape the African heat.
ROOMS:
There are 38 spacious rooms, two small but spacious cottages and the River House for small groups (ideally two couples). All are kept to reasonable standards with twin or four-poster beds, white linen and hanging mosquito nets. An en-suite bathroom, writing table and cosy chairs ensure your comfort. As the price increases, so do the level of luxury – the River House comes with a wraparound veranda for private dining and satellite TV.
QUICK INSIGHTS:
The relaxed garden setting is lovely. Make the most of all the open space and amble across the grassy lawns amongst the guinea fowl, enjoy a birding tour, or even go slightly further afield and hike through the foothills of nearby Mount Meru.
