Four Points by Sheraton Arusha

> Arusha

Four Points Sheraton sits in a historic section of Tanzania's northernmost major city, the eponymous Arusha. The hotel itself is said to be built in 1894. Although it has been renovated from time to time, it retains some of the lovely relics of the past, like colonial facades, broad undercover breezeways, and a mature garden.

OVERVIEW:

Expect top-notch hospitality with all the mod cons, alongside somewhat dated but clean and comfortable furnishings. Four Points is the perfect stopover treat before and after a challenging ascent of Africa's tallest mountain, just 90 kilometres away.

THE LODGE/CAMP:

Step off Arusha's chaotic streets and enter the atmosphere of calm, with a warm-smiled welcome. While much of the hotel feels somewhat standard-fare (especially the furnishings), specific spaces, like the garden and terrace, reflect a bit more romance. The Parachichi Restaurant (that's "avocado" in Swahili) serves up an eclectic array of food throughout the day, and the Bustani Pool Bar will meet any thirsty whim. The pool itself is lovely, and fitness buffs will enjoy the 24-hour gym.

ROOMS:

The 114 rooms come in various categories, from Traditional Queen and Deluxe King to Premium King and a Club Suite. (The main difference is in the room's location – in the Garden or Executive wing – and the size of the bed.) All rooms have large windows (some with double doors opening on to balconies), modern en-suite bathrooms with high-pressure showers, and wi-fi. The decor may not be particularly striking, but the rooms are incredibly comfortable and immaculately clean.
